I feel like we’ve made our first real friends since coming to Peru. What a wonderful thing it is to have friends! What’s even better is that our new friends speak English! I can’t believe how excited that makes me haha
Let me tell you about our new friends. First, they do have names. Liz and Miguel. Liz was an intern at El Bichito this time last year and she fell in love with Miguel, who’s from Cajamarca, and decided to marry him and stay in Peru. It’s actually a much longer and cuter love story but that’s their story to tell and not mine. If you’re really interested, you can ask me later.
It’s fun because they’re both our age and like doing similar things. They’ve volunteered to take us all around and show us the fun things to do around the area and show us some of the more cultural things. Miguel knows how to make yogurt and cheese AND cook guinea pig so those are definite musts on our list.
We went to their house for lunch today and they invited us to start doing family home evening with them on Monday nights. They usually go to other family’s homes so we’re excited to experience some actual Peruvian homes in the future. Tomorrow they’re going to show us a neat hiking spot with a waterfall and then we’ll go back to their house for a lesson and whatnot.
They’re also going to give us Spanish lessons which we are in desperate need of. It’s great to hear Liz talk Spanish because a year ago she was right where we were. And Miguel is learning English so we’ll all be able to laugh and learn together. I just love new friends!
